Liquor is a sweet drink of high alcohol content that should be consumed after meals. The term comes from the Latin liquifacere, to liquefy, to dissolve.
The appearance of the liquors goes back to ancient times. It is reported that already in the tombs, of the old Egypt, were found prescriptions of liquors that were used as digestive and as medicinal products, especially in the problems of the stomach.
Thinkers like Hippocrates, Galen, and Pliny wrote about it. But only in 900 BC, the Arabs invented the production of alcohol through fermentation.
Liquors are obtained from alcohol, brandy or other spirits, aromas, herbs, fruits and flowers.
In medieval times, the famous cooks of that time used the liqueurs as flavors, to disguise the aroma of the meats in bad conditions. They were liqueurs of poor quality, only sweetened alcohols to which, roughly, they added syrups and herbs.
